Mission Statement
ReRun is a 24hr Outreach Service for young people and their families, where young people are away from home or finding life difficult to manage.
Aims (Why we do it)
- To ensure that young people are living in a safe environment and keep themselves safe when away from home.
- To ensure that young people have their basic needs met and are free from the impact of poverty.
- To empower young people to make decisions about, and feel in control of issues that affect them.
- To broaden young people’s outlook and aspirations so that they can enjoy themselves and achieve in education and employment.
- To reduce anti-social behaviour, promote good citizenship and enable young people to make a positive contribution to their families and communities.
- To develop skills required for independent living.
Objectives (What we do)
- Provide independent outreach workers who can develop voluntary relationships in a caring, supportive and non-judgemental manner with young people, families and carers.
- Provide a 24 hour emergency contact point for young people who find themselves in a critical situation.
- Work in a flexible manner, taking an holistic approach to the young person and their individual circumstances.
- Undertake return home interviews with young people who have been away from home to assess the risk of them not achieving their 5 “Every Child Matters” outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and being free from impact of poverty.
- Maintain a one to one dedicated key worker for young people or parents needing ongoing support
- Enable young people to identify their needs through a detailed assessment, consider a range of actions, make choices and evaluate the outcomes.
- Provide confidential advice and information on pertinent issues eg housing, education, training, benefits.
- Support young people in accessing specialist advice and information from other agencies eg health, substance use, debt.
- Complement and add value to other services for young people under 19.
- Support families of young people through direct work with the family, advocacy or mediation.
- Provide opportunities for the voice of young people and their families to be heard.
- Provide opportunities for isolated individuals experiencing similar issues to come together for mutual support and learning.
- Monitor the incidence of, and associated issues around running away in Dorset.
