INFORMATION ABOUT POLICIES - ReRun - Dorset Runaways Service

Information about policies

We are committed to providing an individual service that ensures the best outcomes for young people and wherever possible their families also. We recognise that where family relationships have become difficult, situations can be emotional and challenging and we will strive to be sensitive and respectful at all times.

The following statements apply to all of our work and there are full policy statements relating to each. Please get in touch if you would like copies.

Keeping vulnerable people safe
This is the most important principle for all ReRun staff – keeping vulnerable people safe. Therefore in the following situations, information may be shared with other agencies without receiving your consent  to do so:

  • Where someone needs urgent medical treatment.
  • Where the worker believes that there may be significant risk of harm to the person or others.
  • Where the worker is informed of abuse either past or present to a person under the age of 18.
  • Where the worker has evidence of involvement or participation in criminal activity either past or present.

In these circumstances the worker will take advice from a manager and we will tell you what information we are sharing and with whom.

Confidentiality
ReRun staff want to build relationships based on trust, respect and honesty and recognise that people might want to share personal information that is private to them. Therefore all information that you share with us, except that which falls under “keeping vulnerable people safe” will be kept confidential within ReRun. This means that the subject of conversations may be recorded in case notes and the detail may be discussed with a worker’s manager in order to clarify what approach a worker will take. No information will be shared with anybody else without your consent. This can sometimes put us in a difficult position when we are working with young people and their parents. Our staff will offer the same level of confidentiality to young people as we do for parents.

Information Sharing
Where there are several agencies or workers supporting one family, we recognise that it can be irritating to have to explain your situation several times over and annoying to receive conflicting advice from different people. In these circumstances we would encourage young people and parents to allow us to share information with other professionals and will record that you have given us consent to do so in the case notes.  Where young people refuse to allow ReRun staff to share information with their parents this will be respected, however the youth workers will take a positive approach to encouraging young people to maintain relationships with their parents by sharing information with them.

Record Keeping
ReRun staff keep records of work they do with young people and their families. These records are kept securely in paper format and are held for future reference for a period of 6 years. After this they are destroyed. A young person or parent receiving support can request to see their case notes at any time by contacting the Service Director. An appointment will be made for the notes to be viewed

Equality & Diversity
ReRun staff are committed to taking positive steps to make sure that all people are treated with dignity and respect, whilst recognising that each individual is different. Our intention is to provide support that is tailored to meet the needs of each person, whatever their situation or circumstances.

Complaints
If you have any concerns or worries about services that you have or are receiving from ReRun we would wish to hear about it. We hope that you have a good enough relationship with a worker to speak directly to them about it, however we know that this can sometimes be difficult and are happy for you to contact the service management at any time. We can talk through with you any problems you are having and go through the complaints procedure with you.

Improvements in the service
We want to provide the best possible services to young people and their families and YOU are the best people to tell us how things could be done differently or better. Please get in touch to let us know what you think about your experiences of ReRun.
