History
ReRun was established in 2003 to provide advice, information and support to young people in Dorset, under 19 years, and their families who are experiencing issues around running away, being thrown out of home or having unsafe or insecure accommodation. ReRun registered as a charity in October 2004.
Rural Dorset falls within the top 20% most deprived areas nationally in terms of accessing services (Index of Multiple Deprivation 2004) and it is for this reason that ReRun was set up as an outreach service to work with young people and their families who are isolated and unable to reach centre based support. Rural Dorset has a network of advice and information centres set in market towns, however referrals to ReRun indicate that 50% of young people lived in the market towns but had chosen not to access centre based services. There is no other outreach service meeting the needs of young people living in the rural hinterland and no other service in Dorset specifically aimed at families that have a young person who is running away. The ReRun project workers provide advice, information and very practical support to young people and their families to ensure that young people are safe, are able to live healthy lives, can enjoy and achieve, are able to contribute positively and through making informed choices will be able to live productive, independent lives.
