Katie's story BACK TO LIST

A few years ago my Mum started seeing Jason, at first I got on fine with him but when he moved in everything changed. My Mum started taking his side in everything, she wouldn’t listen to anything I had to say. He started saying if I could go out or not and how much money I could have and when I started telling my Mum that he was more important than me, he started shouting at me and got really angry. I thought he was going to hit me. I don’t feel like its my home anymore and I don’t want to be there. They don’t care about whats going on at school either – Jason says I have to sort it out for myself but the bullying’s really bad and the teachers don’t do anything about it. I hate my life and I just want to be somewhere else. I keep thinking about where I could go and how I could get away.

My ReRun worker really helped because she listened to what I had to say. She really understood how bad school was and came with me to get things sorted. I’ve moved class now and got a time out card if things get difficult. I’ve got Crissy’s number and I can call or text her whenever I want to talk to her or if things are bad. My Mum and me are getting on better now and we’ve had a couple of days out together just the two of us. This other woman from ReRun came and helped us work out some rules about money and going out, so Jason doesn’t get involved anymore, and he’s stopped shouting at me. I still don’t like him living with us but it is better at home now. Katie, age 14
