Help for Lisa BACK TO LIST

I have been Lisa’s form tutor since she joined the school at age 11 and knew her sister before that. I was aware that her older sister had had difficulties at home and had left home just after her GCSE’s. I’m sure that this upheaval had an impact on her studying because her results weren’t as good as they should have been and she ended up going to college rather than staying on at 6th form to do “A” levels.

During a period of six months I saw changes in Lisa’s personality and behaviour. She seemed far less happy at school, wass withdrawn – not participating so actively in class and quieter within her peer group. When I discussed it with her she said she was missing her Mum and was worried about her and agreed that speaking to a school counsellor might be useful. When I mentioned this to her father at a parent’s meeting he was not at all happy about the idea.

When Lisa told me that family arguments were getting so bad that her Dad had said she’d have to leave when she turns 16, I suggested that Lisa make contact with ReRun.

I have had several occasions to make referrals to ReRun and really appreciate the flexible way they work. They’ll accept a referral in any format and Lisa felt the best way for her was to text them. Once Crissy had got Lisa to agree to meet her and got her consent to talk to me, we spoke on the phone and I was able to give her some background information.

Crissy initially met Lisa in school but thereafter met her at home in the evenings. I was thrilled to hear that Lisa’s dad had changed his mind about the counselling and Crissy asked me to arrange that through school.  Lisa also tells me that although her parents weren’t very pleased to start with, that they got on well with Crissy and things have settled down at home to the point where she doesn’t have to leave and is planning to stay on after GCSEs to do “A” levels. Certainly Lisa’s grades have picked up considerably and she seems more settled and back to the happy young person that I have previously taught. Lisa's teacher
